Disaster Mitigation, Relief & Rehabilitation

BUILDING INCLUSIVE DISASTER RESILIENT COMMUNITIES

KHW-India is traditionally not a disaster relief and rehabilitation organization. Some work was done earlier in Garhwal, following cloudbursts and earthquakes. However, significant work was only done only in Tamil Nadu after the 2004 Asian tsunami. Interventions mostly focused on Relief and Rehabilitation.

From early 2013 a pilot Disaster Risk Reduction project is planned in the Chamba sub-division of the Tehri district of Uttarakhand. This would mark KHW-India’s first foray in disaster mitigation. This program is also unique because it aims to make the process inclusive by involving and engaging persons with disability in all stages of the project.

KHW-India’s disaster mitigation, relief and rehabilitation program intentionally focuses on partnering with a various stakeholders and has a very participatory delivery model.
